| About the Owner |
Hi, My name is Gloria. I have owned the PINK HOUSE Women's & Vintage Consignments (formerly Doubletake) for 15 years! HISTORY I grew up in Pennsylvania up-cycling hand-me-downs. Previously, I attained a B.S. MT (ASCPC), trained at Yale New Haven, specialized in clinical chemistry, set-up a Lab to pass State Inspection, started a family, decided to be a stay-at-home Mom, shopped at the local children's consignment shop, became friends with the owner, worked as a helper when my son entered preschool, and... found that I loved the business, bought the store when the owner offered, added women's consignments, and the rest is history. Running a lab is really very much like running a consignment shop (believe it or not...):) each patient had bar-coded test tubes, and the each consignor has bar-coded items. But in my store, I get to socialize, where as in the Lab, not so much! People from all over the country, (as well as my wonderful following from clients relatives visiting each Holiday from all over New England, California, Florida, Michigan, etc. say, "...The Pink House is the first stop"... they make when they visit...! I feel like a part of many families! I even have "adopted" moms, grandmothers, sisters and aunts! Each season I make improvements to continue the Eclectic, interesting, bold, and definitely-not-boring styles... RECENT NEWS I recently dropped credit card services because of increasing costs to small businesses, but taking cash and checks has never been a problem. Customers are happy to have a nice walk to the local ATM, diagonal to the Pink House because they love to support local businesses. There are 2 other businesses close by who also do not accept credit cards. I have made my closest friends since moving my business to Canton in 2006. Canton and Collinsville have a great appreciation for my "all decades" women's and vintage clothing and accessories. Local elementary, high school, and private schools, as well as local theaters are sent to the Pink House for it's wide variety. So many local business women have found everyday business wear, designer jeans, or formal wear. Don't worry, Moms, I also have more casual, stay-at-home wear too! Whether you are consigning or shopping, the shop is well-organized for an old, quaint house. The dressing room invites camaraderie and fun! I enjoy spending time with my children and friends, who both have been a tremendous help in the store over the years. I also enjoy donating unsold clothing to my friend, Juanita, who sends items to Ghana! I had the wonderful opportunity to meet with the couple from Ghana on their surprise visit one day. What a blessed event. Mom always said I would own my own store one day! |
